The Lochgoin and Covenanting Trust is a charitable organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the Scottish Covenanters, with a particular focus on Lochgoin Farm. Lochgoin, situated in East Ayrshire, was historically a refuge for Covenanters during the 17th century religious conflicts. The farm served as a safe haven for these devout Presbyterians who resisted the imposition of episcopacy by the Stuart kings.
The Trust oversees the maintenance of the Lochgoin Covenanters’ Museum, which houses a collection of artifacts, documents, and exhibits related to the Covenanting period. The museum provides valuable insights into the lives, struggles, and sacrifices of the Covenanters, as well as the role Lochgoin played as a center of resistance.
The trustees of the Lochgoin and Covenanting Trust are responsible for managing the trust’s activities, including the preservation of the site, organizing educational programs, and promoting research into the Covenanting history. These trustees typically include historians, local community leaders, and descendants of Covenanter families, all united by a shared commitment to keeping the memory and legacy of the Covenanters alive for future generations. Their work ensures that the story of the Covenanters, and their fight for religious freedom, continues to be remembered and respected.
